Transportation Guide

Tokyo's public transportation system is widely regarded as the world's most efficient and reliable, making it incredibly easy to navigate this vast metropolis. Trains run precisely on schedule, stations are clearly marked in multiple languages, and one IC card (Suica or PASMO) works across all systems – from trains and subways to buses and even some convenience stores. For first-time visitors to Japan, this integrated network transforms what could be an overwhelming city into an accessible, enjoyable experience.

Shibuya

Trains and Subways

Shimokitazawa Station connects you to all of Tokyo through two key lines: the Odakyu Line reaches Shinjuku in 7 minutes, while the Keio Inokashira Line takes you to Shibuya in 4 minutes. Both are major hubs connecting to JR lines and Tokyo's extensive subway network.
From these hubs, you can reach any major Tokyo destination within 20-30 minutes. Your IC card (Suica or PASMO) works across all operators, and English signage plus smartphone apps make navigation simple for first-time visitors.

Shinjuku

Taxis and Alternative Transport

Taxis in Tokyo are clean, safe, and reliable, though more expensive than trains. They're perfect for late-night returns when trains stop running (around midnight-1am), or when carrying heavy shopping from places like Shibuya. Most drivers don't speak English, so having your destination written in Japanese helps. Ride-sharing apps are limited in Tokyo, but taxi apps like GO provide English interfaces and automatic payment.

Harajuku

Airport Access

The easiest route to both airports is by bus from Shibuya Mark City depot. Direct buses run regularly to both Haneda (30-45 minutes) and Narita (60-90 minutes) airports, with comfortable seating and luggage storage.
For Narita Airport, the Narita Express from Shinjuku is also an excellent option, offering reserved seating and dedicated luggage space in about 60 minutes.
If you're traveling to Haneda with heavy luggage, taxis cost under ¥10,000 and provide door-to-door convenience in 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Both airports have excellent English support, making your arrival or departure smooth and stress-free.
